Nokia will start deploying the network in the second quarter of 2018, and completed in 2020. By the end of this year, Nokia will be using the 600MHz and 28GHz millimeter wave airscale solution to complete the 5G ran deployment, thus delivering multiple gigabit rates and ultra-low latency for some of the most densely populated parts of the country, such as Dallas. This will enable T-mobile to launch innovative services for their customers in family, work and mobile scenarios.
Supported by the Nokia Airscale Wireless platform, 5G networks deployed in the 600MHz and 28GHz millimeter-wave bands will be compatible with the 3GPP 5G New (NR) standard. The new Reefshark chipset family and Nokia native Cloud core portfolio provide support for the Nokia Airscale wireless platform. The Nokia 5G Accelerator service will help T-mobile launch 5G services in selected cities in early 2019.
T-mobile chief technology officer Neville Ray said: “T-mobile 5G coverage will be much higher than other operators.” T-mobile will be the first to launch a 5G network covering all of the United States, in partnership with Nokia. Our customers already have the fastest LTE network, and the network will be in collaboration with 5G to bring faster speed. ”
Nokia’s President and Chief Executive Officer Rajeev Suri said: “We are excited to work with T-Mobile for their groundbreaking nationwide 5G rollout. Nokia’s 5G solution combines our high-capacity New Radio, Core and SDN controlled ‘anyhaul’ transport and software, and incorporates innovations such as the new in-house silicon ReefShark chipset to deliver a new level of network performance. 5G is happening now, and no company is better placed to deliver than Nokia.”
